We are so excited to announce the launch of the Special Needs Transition Planning Masterclass, which is the first in a series of online special needs masterclasses with Author, Attorney, and Coach Annette M. Hines. For parents whose children are in their transition years, transition planning is a bridge between security and structure offered by the school system to adult services and supports. Transition planning also creates a roadmap of services and supports and outlines action steps for new caregivers or disabled persons navigating their resources.
Who This is For:
- For parents whose children are in their transition years, transition planning is a bridge between security and structure offered by the school system to adult services and supports. Transitioning planning also creates a roadmap of services and supports and outlines action steps for new caregivers or disabled persons navigating their resources.
- Caregivers, advocates, legal guardians, and trustees in transition from one generation to the next.
- Individuals with special needs or disabilities who are transitioning services or benefits and planning for themselves.
Course Purpose:
This class will help you to organize your resources and identify what elements you already have for the process and which ones you are missing. The goal is to help you figure out what supports a disabled person will need to ensure that their person-centered plan is honored and is the right plan with all the needed elements and people in place.
In three separate units, the course examines the transition planning process like a three-legged stool: each leg of the stool is very important and depends on the others working together. The three legs of the stool that this course will examine in three separate units include: 1) Public Benefits, which encompasses financial elements and the people who will be involved in your team. We call this your Circle of Care (TM); 2) A Legal Estate Plan that pulls together your set of goals and protects all of your hard work; and 3) Legal Decision Making and Authority and how you support your loved one.
What’s Included:
Workbook + Course Book + 15 Video Modules + Bonus Glossary of terms for the disability community
85+ page downloadable course book
40 page downloadable workbook
Video modules sharing both personal experiences and professional information to support you throughout the transition in care or services accessible for one year from purchase
Additional Coaching and Community Resources:
In addition to providing an online course, Special Needs Family Services is offering group and private transition planning coaching programs. Two separate coaching bundles feature:
Eight live, online group coaching sessions that will take participants beyond the online masterclass by providing opportunities for additional learning and community-building within cohort groups of others within the disability community. This is meant to create a cohort of people who can rely on each other and work together to navigate transition issues. Our hope is that the cohort will continue to support and encourage one another long after the conclusion of the group coaching sessions.
Four live, online private coaching sessions with either Annette M. Hines or Case Manager Julie James who will guide participants in either the creation of a transition plan or the implementation of one.
Beta Test of the Masterclass and Coaching Program Started July 19
Currently, we are in the middle of a beta test of the Online Transition Planning Masterclass and Coaching Program with a well-rounded group of professionals and individuals who have demonstrated expertise and experience working in the disability field. Before we open enrollment in the masterclass and coaching program to the public, we are testing and examining every aspect of the course and coaching program to ensure we get it right.
Our next group coaching cohort will open in September when we will be offering enrollment for the masterclass only or the bundled masterclass and group coaching program and at an exclusive price. Contact hello@michiganshighfive.org with questions or look for more details soon!
